David Kenneth Edmondson, 85, joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Friday, Jan. 1, 2016. He was born Sept. 19, 1930, in Jefferson City, the son of William C. and Blanche Reed Edmondson.
His beloved stepmother, Clara Abbott Edmondson, guided him through life after his mother died. His father and stepmother also preceded Ken in death.
Kenneth was a graduate of Jefferson City High School, Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Okla., and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Ken was awarded an honorary doctor of humanity from Culver Stockton College in Canton and has been honored by SBU and OBU with outstanding alumni awards.
Ken’s years of active service began as pastor of Archie Baptist Church in Archie, then vice president at SWBC, now known as Southwest Baptist Uninversity, OBU and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary-Kansas City. He also worked for a time with Cargill Associates fundraising firm in Ft. Worth. Ken was currently a member of the First Baptist Church in Bolivar.
Ken met his beloved wife, Mary Lou Brewer, while both were students at OBU. They were married June 5, 1953, in Hugoton, Kan., and to this union, Cathy Lynn, Mark Allen and Michael Reed were born. Ken and Mary Lou lived in Bolivar for more than 40 years before moving to the Kansas City area two months ago to be near family.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou; daughter Cathy Cole and husband Rick; sons, Mark Edmondson and wife Cathy and Michael Edmondson; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
