Sam was born on November 2, 1928 in Brunswick to Sam and Anna (Brown) Johnson. He graduated from Brunswick High School, Valedictorian, in May of 1946 and was married to Joan Frances Reichert on February 22, 1952. They were married for 51 years until Joan's passing in 2003. Sam was elected Mayor of Brunswick, Missouri in 1972 and served until 1976. He served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Brunswick Levee Board from 1958 to 1992. Following the death of Sam's father in 1944, Sam and his Mother took over the Johnson Maytag Company. In 1966 Sam Johnson's, Inc. was formed. Sam successfully operated the corporation with the addition of the farming operation (assisted by Sam Johnson III) for nearly 75 years. Sam and his mother operated the business together for nearly forty years. Soon thereafter Joan, Kay, Cindy and Sammy assumed their positions within the corporation. Sam's work ethic was unparalleled as was his devotion to family, business and community.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan F. (Reichert) Johnson, his parents, Anna L. (Brown) Johnson and Sam M. Johnson, and his son-in-law, Patrick W. Lorenz.
He is survived by two sons, Sam Johnson III and his wife Nancy and Steven Johnson and his wife Tanja; four daughters, Kay (Johnson) Kinkhorst and husband Eric, Gerry Johnson, Lynda Johnson Lorenz, and Cindy (Johnson) Collier and husband Brent. Sam has ten beautiful grandchildren, Ana, Scott, Megan, Alison, Sam, Leanne, Morgan, Emily, Brooke, and Jill, and three great-grandsons, Heath, Henry and Hudson.
