She was the daughter of the late Leo and Adele George formerly of North Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre, where her father operated a shoe repair business for many years.
Margaret was a graduate of Coughlin High School, Class of 1954, and earned an associate degree from Luzerne County Community College. Following her high school graduation, she began her career at the Wilkes-Barre Publishing Co. in 1955, as secretary to the advertising manager. Nine years later, she became a bookkeeper in the business office and in 1972 was promoted to advertising representative.
She began her career at The Citizens' Voice being one of the original founders, where she worked since it's inception in 1978 as an advertising representative, until her retirement in 1998.
In conjunction to her work in advertising, she had been secretary of the Northeast Pennsylvania Advertising Club for three years. She was also a member of The Citizens' Voice 25-year club.
Margaret was a very active woman who loved her work, loved to travel, was a creative artist, enjoyed playing Mahjongg and going to the Casino. She was an active member of St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church and its Ladies Society. When the church was being built she served as financial secretary of the building fund.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her two sisters, Marion Norman and her husband, Daniel Norman, Hanover Twp.; Betty Polanowski and her husband, Dr. Frank P. Polonowski, Elizabethtown; beloved nephew, Leo George Polonowski and his wife, Kristen, San Jose, Calif.; and her two loving great-nieces, Lauren and Addison Polonowski.
The funeral will be held on Saturday from Mamary-Durkin Funeral Service, Wilkes-Barre, followed by Divine Liturgy at St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, Wilkes-Barre.
Interment in St. Mary's Orthodox Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
