Hugh Chester DuBOSE, 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Manorhouse Assisted Living Center in Chattanooga, after a brief illness.

Hugh was an aeronautical engineer at Arnold Engineering Development Center in Tullahoma, where he lived for 60 years. He was born in Mississippi and grew up in Pensacola, Florida. Hugh was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Florida in physics. A World War II veteran, Hugh served in the Army Air Corps as a fighter pilot and instructor, flying P-51s. He was stationed in Japan after, the war. He liked to volunteer for such things as teaching Sunday school, as a leader with the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts, and delivering Meals on Wheels. He and his wife, Mertice, received the Boy Scouts Long Rifle Award for their service.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mertice DuBose; his parents Omer and Pearle DuBose; and his son, Don DuBose. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca DuBose Ferguson (Jim), of Wylie, Texas; his sons, Raymond DuBose (Pinkey), of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Thomas DuBose (Susan), of Chattanooga; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Thanks go out to the staff at Manorhouse Assisted Living Center for all their caring and support. Services will be held at a later date in Tullahoma.
