Dan served in the Air National Guard for 19 years, some of which was active duty. He also served as commander of the Londonderry American Legion Post 27.
Dan owned Sunnycrest Farm in Londonderry with his brother-in-law, John Conner. He served as President for the NHFG and the NDTFA. His vision made Sunnycrest Farm one of the leading innovative orchards in New England. Dan was instrumental in the formation of the Londonderry Conservation Commission, serving as chairman and remaining a member for 33 years. It was his dedicated work and passion for nature that ensured the purchase of land known as Musquash and the Plummer Property.
Dan is predeceased by his brothers Paul, George, Robert and David, and his sisters Elaine and Shirley. He is survived by his lifelong wife and soulmate Gretchen; their three children, Deirdre Hicks Barrett, Shelby Hicks, Daniel Hicks and his wife Kelley; seven grandchildren, Rachel, Elizabeth, Hanna, Michael, Daniel IV, Madison and Corey. Many, many nieces and nephews will greatly miss their Uncle Danny.
Following cremation, calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 29th from 4 – 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 30th at 10:00am in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are to be determined.
