Lady of Quiet Strength”

Martha Lowry passed away on her 89th Birthday, January 13, 2019. Martha’s heart was broken in 2012 when cancer claimed her dear Richard. Martha’s fervent daily prayers to be reunited with Richard, her husband of 63 years, were answered with God’s greatest gift; eternal life in heaven for those who believe and accept him as their Lord and Savior. It is my Christian belief that today Mom and Dad are strolling the streets of heaven, again hand in hand.

Martha, Richard and young son Rick moved from Mayfield, KY to Tampa in 1960 in search of new opportunities for a better life. Martha began a teaching career than spanned 20+ years. To this day, many past students claim she was among their best teachers ever. She was compassionate but strict and nurtured her students like the very best educators do. Martha followed her career as an educator with one of service. For 23 years Martha worked at Idlewild Baptist Church. She, however, claimed it was never a job – rather a blessing – to serve the congregation and her Lord Jesus Christ. Martha’s soft and sweet demeanor quickly earned her “The Voice of Idlewild” title which meant more to her than most will ever know.

Through Martha’s difficult final years she never failed to say “Thank You” and “I love you” to those who so passionately cared for her. If you knew Martha … You loved Martha. Martha was a compassionate Southern Christian Lady who loved Jesus, her Richard, her Ricky, her family and her Church Family. Her love, kindness, those sweet blue eyes and her grace will be forever remembered by many. Following a private service, Martha was laid to rest with her husband at Florida National Cemetery.
