The funeral of Lola B. Jones, age 96, will be at 3:00 PM Monday, May 16, 2005, at Brooks Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a member for over 75 years. She died at Murray-Calloway County Hospital, Saturday, May 14, 2005 at 12:30 A.M. Officiating the funeral will be Rev. Robert McKinney, Rev. Eugene Burkeen, Rev. James Keeling, and Rev. Deb Webb. Visitation will be at Collier Funeral Home in Benton, KY, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, on Sunday, May 15 and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 PM. Burial will be in the Brooks Chapel Cemetery, in Calloway County, KY.


Lola B. Jones


Mrs. Jones was born Aug. 2, 1908, in Calloway County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Eva Ross Burkeen and Webster Burkeen. She had two brothers, Leon Burkeen and James Hugh Burkeen. She was married to the late Toy Jones in 1930; they were the parents of three daughters, Jean, Anne, and Barbara.
"Miss Lola," or "Ma Jones," as she was affectionately called by friends and family, was a homemaker, elementary school teacher, and an avid church worker. She taught in one- and two-room schools: Independence, Palestine, Shady Hill, and Brooks Chapel. "Miss Lola" taught Sunday School for years at Brooks Chapel United Methodist Church and also was the church historian. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women's Circle where she served as president at different times.

Mrs. Lola is survived by daughters: Jean Ross, Anne Siress, and Barbara McKendree; sons-in-law: Roc Bert Siress and Joe Tom McKendree; ten grandchildren and their spouses: Dianne and Dwain Redden, Karen and Louie Marr, Cara Gwen and James Mathis, Tonia and Billy Doom, Kim and Gary Tapp, Terry and Gina Ross, Karol and Barry Hardison, Brad and Julie McKendree, Kennita and Jim Blanchard, and Jan Howard; sixteen great-grandchildren: Amy Connelly, Kristen Sieler, Ashly Taylor, Erin Maguet, Noah Ross, Justin McKendree, Nick Tapp, Ethan Ross, Megan Blanchard, Nathan Hardison, and Colyn Ross Howard; three great-grandsons-in-law: Mike Sieler, Matt Maguet and Mark Connelly; four great-great-grandchildren: Zachary Redden, Rachel Redden, Brock Sieler, and Kenzie Connelly.

Ma Jones was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and husband of 47 years, Toy Jones, son-in-law Roy Ross, twin grandsons: Michael B. and Bruce A. McKendree, and twin great-great-granddaughters: Adelide and Belle Maguet.

Ma Jones was loved by so many and will be missed by all.
