John Arana Chavez was born one of ten children, eight brothers and two sisters in the Chavez family on 8 February 1940 in Bisbee, Arizona.
In July of 1958 at eighteen years of age John heard the calling and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. John served this great nation we live in proudly until his honorable discharge in April of 1962 attaining the rank of Lance Corporal. After his honorable discharge, LCPL Chavez joined the Marine Corps Reserves serving for additional four years.
It was also in 1958 in the month of October that LCPL Chavez married the love of his life Mary. From this union came two children.
Returning to Bisbee after serving in the military, LCPL Chavez started his civilian career as an underground miner and worked in the mines for fifteen years. LCPL Chavez then moved his family to Tucson to work as a diesel mechanic and heavy duty equipment sales at John Deere and then finishing out his civilian careers working for the Airport Authority until retirement.
LCPL Chavez passed on 28 December 2018 leaving a legacy of his wife Mary of fifty eight years, two children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren along with one brother, two sisters, and many friends.
LCPL Chavez will be remembered for his love for his family, his pride in serving this great nation we live in, and his penchant for the great outdoors.John Arana Chavez, 78, was called home on December 28, 2018.

John proudly served his county as a Marine.

He was a great hunter and outdoorsman, with a collection of his trophies and stories of his hunts. He had a huge sense of humor with a love to make everyone laugh. He will be missed and never forgotten.

Survived by his wife of 58 years Mary M. Chavez; daughter, Elaine M. Chavez; son John A Chavez; grandchildren, Angela Paez, E. Michael Rodriguez, Felicia Ochoa and Alejandro L. Carrasco; many other grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Manuel Chavez; sisters, Irene Gonzalez and Otilia Moya.

Preceded in death by his parents Leonardo and Gumesinda also reunited with his brothers.
