RUBIO, Sarah Jane passed away April 7, 2017. She was born in Tampa (on the grounds of the Tampa Bay Hotel) February 12, 1927 to Harry and Mildred Gallaher. She attended Gorrie, Wilson, and Plant and graduated from Florida State College and the New York School of Design. She was an active member of several organizations, including the Junior League, Chiselers, the Henry B. Plant Museum Society, Alpha Delta Pi Alumni Association, Tampa General Medical Auxiliary and Friends of Canterbury. She held leadership positions in each group and was the Founder of Friends of Canterbury, which raises money to make the lives richer for patients confined to the facility. She joined the Junior League in 1947 and was elected Sustainer of the Year in 2010. She was the creative force behind many fundraising projects, including the publication of two books, for the Chiselers and Museum Society. Her passion for her friends and community was only surpassed by her love and devotion for her family. She was preceded in death by Dr. Mauricio Rubio, her beloved husband of 45 years. She leaves behind her loving family Sarah (Connor) Heithaus "Cissy" of Tampa, Kathleen (Conner) Parker Cleveland of Washington, D.C., [stepsons] Michael Rubio of Atlanta, GA, Richard M. Rubio, MD of San Antonio, TX, [stepdaughter] Linda K. Rubio, MD of Santa Rosa, CA, and nine grandchildren..
