Daughter of Benjamin Wallick. Wife of J. H. Horn.

Mrs. J. H. Horn, of Atchison, formerly of Effingham, passed away at her home on Aug. 27, 1942.
Sarah Catherine Wallack, familiarly known as Kate Wallack, was born Sept. 22, 1852 in Indiana and at the time of her death was 89 years old.
The deceased came with her parents to Kansas when she was 8 years old. The trip from St. Joseph to Atchison was made by river ferry. The family located on a farm near Monrovia and later moved to a farm southeast of Effingham. Her parents were pioneers and she and her sisters and brothers knew the hardships of early days in Northeast Kansas.
She was married March 5, 1879 to Jacob H. Horn of Bellefontaine, Ohio, and went to live as a bride in her husband's state. A year later, they returned to Atchison county where she has lived since.
A daughter Inez, now Mrs. C. L. Hixon of Atchison was born to the union. Dr. and Mrs. Hixon have both been devoted to mother in her declining years.
Mrs. Horn was a musician of no mean ability. She taught music when a young woman and attended conventions in various parts of the state where she sang."
Besides her daughter, Mrs. Horn is survived by two grandsons, Chas Hixon and Lester Hixon; a sister, Mrs. Adda Cummings of Kansas City; nieces, Miss Helen Wallack, Mrs. Vesta Kaufman and Marie Cummings of Atchison. Internment was made in the Effingham Cemetery next to the remains of her husband, who died 16 years ago.
