Janice was born on December 15, 1934 in Baltimore and was the daughter of the late Peter Charles and Margaret Smit. She was the loving wife for 56 years to the late James Milton Cole, who predeceased her in 2011.
Janice was a dedicated mother to her children and loved spending time with her family. She had most recently worked as a clerk for O’Farrell Auction Barn and retired at the age of 80. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church.
Surviving her are daughters Sheila Gross and spouse Larry, Sr. of Westminster, Valerie Harbaugh of Westminster, Colleen Cole and spouse Kathy Keefer of Parkville, Margie Cole of Westminster, Sandy Matthias and Mike of Westminster; brother Richard Smit and spouse Reta of Taneytown; grandchildren Carrie (Donald), Chrissy (Louie), Laura (Brad), Larry, Jr. (Kaitlynn), Emily, Jimmy (Alyssa), Josh (Jessica), Steve (Paige), Sarah (Nick), Tyler, Madison; great-grandchildren Morgan, Emma, Lilly, Wyatt, Dominick, Anthony, and Ava.
In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by sister Charlene Smit Kick Spindler, and son-in-law Richard Harbaugh.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 2800 Old Westminster Pike, Finksburg.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster MD 21157.
