Tony Harrington of Sugar Island, Michigan passed away unexpectedly on January 20, 2019. He was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on November 10, 1945 to John O. and Elizabeth (Albon) Harrington.

Tony loved helping out where he could. In his spare time, depending on the season, you could find him on his tractor, in the garage solving a problem, or helping in the making of maple syrup. Tony loved to stay busy. He was a true jack of all trades. He amassed so much knowledge and experience throughout the years. He really enjoyed sharing that knowledge and experience and lending a helping hand in any way that he could to whomever he could. He knew a little something about everything and always seemed to have just what you needed. After all he always said “Oh just hang onto it. Ya never know when ya might need it.” He often had several projects and hobbies going at once. He enjoyed life. He wanted to experience as much as he could with as many people as he could. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time outdoors. You never quite knew where to find him or what exactly he was up to. Camping, hunting, tinkering on projects in the garage or cabin, cutting and splitting wood, and plowing snow or moving ground with his tractor were just a few of his many interests.
He loved his family and friends fiercely and made sure they knew it. He had a quirky sense of humor and a contagious laugh that always left you smiling too. In fact, the more he teased you, the more he liked you. He had a way of lightening up a room. With his charming half grin, an exaggerated wink and a little waggle of his eyebrows he could change even the sourest of moods.
He was a member of the American Legion and a Disabled Vietnam Veteran who spent 2 tours in the U.S. Navy. He was very proud of who he was and where he came from. Hardwork and perseverance were at the very core of who he was. He loved his country and was proud to be an American. After his service to his country, he spent 14 years aboard vessels, sailing the Great Lakes. He was also a Tribal Elder who appreciated his heritage.
He was such an old fashioned soul with solid roots and values as strong as they come. He touched countless lives and truly enriched the community around him.

Surviving Tony Harrington are his loving wife, Barbara, sons Anthony (Stacy) Harrington of Granite Falls, Washington, Robert (Heather) LaPointe of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, daughter Maria (Joel Erfe) Harrington of Elk Grove, California, sisters Marilyn King and Patricia Steinebach, and 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John N. Harrington, and sister Belle Hutton.

Visitation will be held at Hovie Funeral Home on Friday January 25, 2019 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Funeral services will take place at Hovie Funeral Home at 1:00 P.M.
