Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 26, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, where friends may greet the family from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Rev. Steven Rosonke will officiate. Private Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service is entrusted with arrangements.
Joan was born December 26, 1932 in Dubuque, the daughter of Daniel and Mary (Melloy) Dougherty. She married Gerald “Buzzy” Donovan on September10, 1955 at St. Raphael Cathedral. He preceded her in death on January 6, 2001.
Joan and Buzzy farmed in Rickardsville, and she also worked at the Dubuque Packing Company for 30 years, retiring in 1981. After retiring from the Pack, Joan and Buzzy purchased Dillon’s Kountry Aire Resort in Branson, MO, which they owned and operated for 20 years. She was an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Branson, and ran the gift shop for over 20 years. Joan spent many days embroidering quilts for her kids and grandkids. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joan is survived by three children, Dave (Trena) Donovan of Forsyth, MO, Dennis (Julie) Donovan of Dubuque, and Mary Kay Dencklau of Norwalk, IA; her grandchildren Holly (Clara Altman) Donovan of Washington D.C., Danny Donovan of Bellingham, WA, Amy (A.J.) Munier of Forsyth, MO, Cindy (Skylar Ayers) Donovan-Ayers of Forsyth, MO, and Naomi Donovan-Ward of Branson, MO; her great grandkids, Frances Altman-Donovan, Arthur Jess Munier V, Harper Sunny Ayers, and Augusta Marie Munier; and her sister in law Lois Houselog of Dubuque.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her oldest son, Daniel Donovan; her son in law, Scott Dencklau; and her siblings, Cecelia (Diz) Henkes, Paul (Helen) Dougherty, Marita “Dubby” (Fran) Mootz, and Kathleen (LeRoy) Holz.
