Charles Alvin Broussard, 79 of Newman passed away after a long struggle of dementia on Wednesday, January 16th at his residence.

Mr. Broussard was born in Port Arthur, Texas and came to California in 1959. He served in the National Guard and was honorably discharged from the Army Reserves. He worked at Avoset for 32 years and retired due to failing eyesight in 1995. Charles enjoyed riding horses, ranching, singing and playing the guitar and harmonica.

Mr. Broussard is survived by his wife of 54 years, Johanna Broussard; daughters, Jody (Jon Pierce) Day and Jill (Jim) Johnston; son, Cody Broussard; six grandchildren; brothers, Raymond (Theresa) Broussard and Irving (Carolyn) Broussard; sister, Beverly (Louis) May; step-mother, Adele Broussard; mother-in-law, Eleanor Camara; brothers-in-law, Ric Camara and Mike Wyatt; sisters-in-law, Diane Camara and Helen Broussard.

He was preceded in death by his, parents, Irving and Wanona Broussard; brothers, Ron Broussard and Gene Broussard; sisters, Jackie Smith and Sandy Wyatt; sister-in-law, Rusty Broussard; father-in-law, Frank Camara; brother-in-law, Floyd Smith; California mom and dad, Sam and Lucille Matoza.

A Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm, Wednesday, January 23rd at Hillview Funeral Chapel in Newman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, January 24th at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Newman. Interment to follow at Hills Ferry Cemetery.
