Herbert Ray Lane, 87, was born in Clayton, New Mexico in 1931. He passed away on January 18, 2019 in Yakima, Washington, at Cottage In the Meadow with his family at his side.
Herb moved with his family at the age of five to the Yakima valley. He graduated from Yakima High School in 1950. He married Kitty Thornton in 1950. Together they had four daughters. While raising their daughters they lived in Washington. California, Oregon and Idaho. During this time he had various endeavors. He worked for Boeing, owned a bar and owned and trained thoroughbreds at Longacres. He was a cost engineer at Vandenberg AFB updating the Titan missiles and ended his career as a project accountant for 30 years with two leading construction firms. Upon retirement, he and Kitty were full time travelers throughout the United States until her passing in 1997 while in Arizona. Herb returned to Yakima to be close to family. In 2001 Herb married Eljean Claassen. They too enjoyed traveling which included a great trip with friends and family in their RVs to Alaska. Their travels also included several cruises. Herb especially liked fishing, watching horse races, and playing cards.
Herb was preceded in death by his mother, Willamae Lane; father, Walter A Lane and eight siblings, Waunita Bolton, Carl Lane, Ethel Cheshier, Gladys Floyd, Virgil Lane, Earl Lane, Max Lenaburg, and Albert Lane.
Herb is survived by his wife, Eljean; his sister, Joyce Beaushaw (Jim); daughters, Gerree Cronk (Jim), Brenda Simon, Mischelle Snider (Don) and Darrie Gillespie; four grandchildren; five great- grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
The family thanks all those that provided care and assistance in his final days, especially his niece, JoAnn Stillwaugh.
Funeral services will be held at Rainier Memorial Center, 2807 Terrace Heights Dr., Yakima on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Concluding services and burial will follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
