Sister Eva Mae Lawson was born on Jan. 3, 1931, in Sumter, to the late George and Mattie Jackson. Her life ended on Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Sister Lawson attended the public schools of Sumter County. At an early age, she became a member of Enon Missionary Baptist Church. She was employed by Hopewell Nursing Facility, Sunset Country Club, Moore House McKenzie, and retired from Lonely Supply Co. Sister Lawson loved shopping, keeping her home tidy, opening her home to foster children, and spending her extra time with her grandchildren and family.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: one beloved daughter, Julia (William) Ballard of Sumter; two devoted sons, Charlie (Martha) Lawson Jr. and Levi (Algerina) Pringle of Sumter; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Alfred) Hamilton of St. Stephens, Charlean (Pastor Gary D.) Miller, Angel (Marquis) Gyant and Charles Lorenzo Ballard, all of Sumter, Santanna Pringle of Columbia and Destiny Pringle of Sumter; 12 great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Darius Hamilton, Samantha Warren of St. Stephens, Gary Dexter and Gabrielle Miller, Zion and Aiden Smith, ZaMiyah and DaMani Gyant, Charles Jr. and Elijah Ballard, all of Sumter, and Jason Witherspoon Jr. of Columbia; two sisters, Ruby Fuller of Sumter and Sara Bell Koroma of Newark, New Jersey; two brothers, Arthur Jackson of Irvington, New Jersey, and Siegel (Audrey) Jackson of Perth Amboy, New Jersey; brother-in-law, Calvin Lawson of Norwalk, Connecticut; sister-in-law, Mary Lawson of Sumter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and dear friends.

She was preceded by six sisters, Ida Brown, Doretha China, Albertha James, Gardenia Gretter, Mattie Jacobs and Amy Frazier; and one brother, George Robert Jackson III.

Funeral service : Westend Community Church, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, with Pastor Gary D. Miller officiating / eulogist, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church, Bowman.

Interment: Hillside Memorial Park
