Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia. Pastor Mark Middendorf will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery at Scotia.

Phyllis Maxine was born May 5, 1923, on the family farm north of Horace in Greeley County to Warren and Nellie (Mitchell) Johnson. She attended Glendale Elementary School and graduated from Scotia High School. She then taught school for four years.
On Feb. 23, 1945, Phyllis was united in marriage to Harvey Freeman at Scotia. Mr. Freeman passed away on June 5, 1966. Phyllis returned to teaching at the North Loup Scotia School, where she taught Head Start for 18 years and then as a teacher’s aide at the North Loup Scotia Elementary on the Green Thumb program for five years. Phyllis built and operated Freeman’s Greenery in Scotia from 1977 to 1992.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she served in various capacities, including VBS director and Lutheran Ladies Aid. She belonged to Happy Hour Club, Scotia Craft Club and Green Thumb Garden Club. Phyllis enjoyed crafting, piece quilts, bird, playing card and raising flowers. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include six sons and daughters-in-law, Billy D. and Shirley, and Keith W., all of Grand Island, Allen H. and Betty of Clarks, Roger L. and Margaret of Greeley, Rodney L. of Tekamah, Gene L. and Theresa of Doniphan and Carol (Mrs. Kenneth) of Grand Island; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan A. and Richard Albright of Grand Island and Pamela S. and Rob Kokes of North Loup; 31 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harvey; a son, Kenneth; six brothers, Lewis, Harold, Lyle, Claude, Russel and Maurice Johnson; five sisters, Grace Warden, Agnes Williams, Pearl Dennis, Ethel Mae Hansen and Helen Lombard; a granddaughter, Taffi Freeman; and a great-granddaughter, Kayla Albright.
