He worked and managed the A & W Root Beer in Charleston for 26 years. He spent many years singing and playing piano for The Joy Beams. He loved and cherished his church family at The New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene in Pinch.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence & Herald Hicks; sister, Hatimena Halstead; niece, Kay Hicks.
Vernon is survived by his niece, Kelli Keen; nephews, Gary Hicks, Steve, Neal & Ronnie Halstead all of Charleston, Jerry, Larry & Melvin Hicks all of St. Albans; several other great nieces & nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Friday September 11, 2015 at 2:30 PM at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden with Pastor Larry Arbogast officiating. Burial will follow at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow. A visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday.
