James Franklin "Bub" Shores, 90, of Jefferson, passed from this life on January 20, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the loving husband of Shirley A. Shores for 49 years. Born on May 25, in Taylorstown, VA, he was the son of Clyde Shores and Lettie (Hammond) Shores.

He was a resident for most of his life in Point of Rocks, where he attended Point of Rock Elementary School, and graduated from Frederick High School in 1945. He then enlisted in the US Navy serving on the USS Zellars (Destroyer) from 1946-1949. Following his military service, joining the Bricklayers Local #6 (Washington, DC.) there becoming a skilled mason for over 60 years’ service.

After his military service, Bub returned to Point of Rocks, and played baseball with Point of Rocks and Ijamsville teams, and has continued to meet with his team mates sharing old stories and drink or two.

He was active in the community organizations: belonging to Steadman-Keenan Post #96, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Loyal Order of the Moose, Frederick Amvets, Frederick Redmen’s Club.

Bub was a simple man who was proud of his military service to his country. He enjoyed sharing his mason and gardening skills with his friends and neighbors and always happy to share his bountiful harvest. Mr. Shores loved to maintain a beautiful lawn and his home. He was especially proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. May his legacy of friendship and kindness continue through all who loved him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons James F. "Butch" Shores, Jr. and wife Donna, Randy Shores and wife Lora, and Jeff Shores and partner Michelle; grandchildren Jeremy and wife Betsy, Sabrina and husband Marty, Josh, David and Dawn and husband BR; great-grandchildren Austin, Tyler, Connor, Camdyn, Kaiden, McKenzie, Sadie, James, Huntley, Kayla, and Josalyn. He is also survived by sisters, Levie Brown, Betty Painter, Anna Mae Stokes and Ruby Zecker; a brother Vernon Shores and special neighbors: Randy, Pam and Nick. He was preceded in death by a brother, Scootie Shores and a sister Louise Lewis. Also survived by sister-in-law Joyce Grams, brothers in laws Alvie Hoffman, , David Hoffman, and Jerry Hoffman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 24 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 North Maple Avenue, Brunswick. A funeral service will take place on Friday, January 25 at 10:00 am at the funeral home, Pastor Ed Hartman officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Point of Rocks.
