Larry “Bird Dog” Starkey, 69 years of age, entered heaven with Mom & Dad on Sunday, January 20, 2019. He was born in Beatrice, was baptized & confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Beatrice. He was a 1967 graduate of Beatrice High School and attended Fairbury Junior College. Larry worked for the railroad until becoming disabled and having to retire in 1997. He enjoyed fishing, yard work and flowers.
Preceded in death by parents - Raymond & Lucile, brother Craig and other relatives and friends.
Survived by sister, Lynne (Al) Sledge, Omaha; niece Terri (Shawn) Hartley & family, Omaha; nephew Chris (Samantha) & family of Nebraska City, NE; niece Elizabeth (Jason) Petersen & family of Jacksonville, FL; nephew Samuel Starkey, Lincoln, NE; sister-in-law Pam Rehm, Pickrell, NE plus many friends to whom he was dedicated & liked to keep in touch with. Larry was such a gentle, kind soul who would give you the shirt off his back.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 25, 2019 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice. Interment will be in the Blue Springs Cemetery, Blue Springs, NE. The body will lie in state Thursday from 10:00 AM-8:00 PM at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice with the family greeting friends from 5-6:30 PM, and on Friday until the time of the service.
