Patricia L. McGill 90 passed away on Jan 18, 2019, in Marshall Michigan. Mom was born Sep 1st 1928 to our Grandparents Ellis and Molly White, in Battle Creek Michigan, She was a 1945 devoted Marshall Redskin graduate. On Jan 1st 1948 she married Harold Gill from Marengo at the West Eckford Church. His passing preceded Mom on Dec 23rd 1949. From this union her Sister in Law and best friend Phyllis Gill survives along with two nephews Craig and Kent Gill. Mom met John A. McGill, they eloped and were married in Angola, Indiana on Feb 13th 1954. For 39 years Mom and Dad were married, Dads heart wasn't strong enough to make 40 years and he departed us in Jan of 1993.
Mom worked at Woodland Metal Products, McGraw-Edison, Seiler Tank Truck Service and American Greeting Card Company. She was dedicated to every employer and passed her work ethic on to her children Richard and Terri who survive with their spouses Becky and Jim. Mom and Dad were not homebodies, they made sure we knew who our relatives are and where they lived. That 1954 Pontiac was Dads pride which took us on vacations and weekends with our families. The VFW Post 3672 was our second home as we were heavily Involved. Mom became a VFW Auxiliary member in 1954 in which she held many chairs to include 3672 President, and 7th District Color Bearer. She loved working bingo at the post, by doing so she provided VFW life memberships for herself, her daughter and two Granddaughters Sarah and Jennifer. She transferred to the homer VFW Post, the Homer Ladies Auxiliary will perform their Ritual Rights for their Sister of 65 years of membership, who she missed being with the last few years as Moms health trailed off. Over the years Ma and Dad square danced and held various offices with the Albion Amblers Square Dance Club during the winter months. Come spring they enjoyed camping with relatives and the Never Ever Home Camping Club in their RV. The flower beds and garden never had a weed in them as the soil stains on Ma's knees, as well as ours, were proof that her green thumb would last up to her final days, as she was forever directing the gals helping her on how to water the plants, Being a soul that endured the Great Depression, Mom was a collector. Cheese Crocks, Tea Bell Strainers, and Shirley Temple Plates were her favorites. She chaired her 1945 Reunion committee for several years and loved each reunion thru 1995, at which time she turned to traveling on bus tours all over the Eastern States. She is survived by brother Norman and Bethel Mae White, residing in sunny Florida. Cousins Joyce Laing and Kenny of Lansing, Mich. Phyllis Riffell and Gene of N. Carolina. Bryon Norton of Atlanta Georgia. Bruce Norton and Elizabeth of California.
Pat also will remember her Grandchildren Chelsea McGill, Cody McGill, Christi Olmstead and Eric, Jessica Grunden and Joel, Jennifer Robinson and Robert, Sarah Robinson and Travis, and Julian Cunkle, her 15 Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews of Indiana and Michigan.
Services will be held at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home in Albion Wednesday Jan 23rd 2019, with visitation at noon, service officiated by Al Henson at 1 pm with the interment at Riverside Cemetery.
Special thanks to the Ladies from All About You Care that provided around the clock Assistance while she was able to remain in her home, and the staff at Vista Grand Assisted Living in Marshall for the care and patience you provided Mom as well as the compassion expressed to Terri, Becky and Myself.
Ma contributed to St. Jude's and the VFW National Home regularly, so per her wishes, these are memorial tributes to consider.
