Country Music Singer. Born Ella Maxine Brown in Louisiana, she moved as a toddler with her parents to Arkansas. She was encouraged at a young age by her parents to sing and perform at local venues. She was a duet with her brother Jim when they signed a record deal with RCA Records in 1954. They had a top ten song in 1954 called "Looking Back to See." The following year their younger sister Bonnie joined the group thus calling themselves the Browns. Their biggest hit was "The Three Bells" reaching No. 1 on the Hot 100 pop and country charts of 1959. They had other hits such as "Scarlet Ribbons (For Her Hair)(1959)," "The Old Lamplighter" (1960). Another highlight for the group came in 1963, when they were inducted into Nashville's Grand Ole Opry. In 1963 Maxine and her siblings were inducted into Nashville's Grand Ole Opry. They were also inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame (2015). Her solo career produced one album.
