Modern-day mountain man Steven Allan McCracken, age 61, of Billings, died Thursday August 30, 2018 at his home. He was born October 15, 1956 in Billings as the son of Donald and Betty McCracken. In 1974, he graduated from Lovell High. He married Darlene Twet on May 19, 1979 in Billings, Steve worked at the Great Western Sugar Company, and made a career with the school district, before retiring and working at Pictograph Caves State Park. Most people knew Steve as a master silversmith, historian, and trade bead expert. Fishing, hunting, and enjoying the Montana wilderness with his family was his true passion. Survivors include his daughters Heather (Luke) Keenan of Billings and Kristina (Joshua) Rizor of Pittsburgh, PA; a brother Mike McCracken of Cowley, WY; and one granddaughter, Abbey Keenan. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one brother. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM, Friday September 7th at the Smith Downtown Chapel.
