Graveside services for Mr. Gary Lanier Byrd, Sr., 88, will be held at 3:00 p.m.on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery officiated by Jerry Byrd. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Mr. Byrd, widower of Mary Barfield Byrd, died peacefully on Sunday, January 20th, 2019 . Born in Darlington County, SC, he was a son of the late Edward Jerry and Beulah Dukes Byrd. He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church. He was retired from Sonoco Products Company after 46 years and was a member of the Old Timers Club. He served in the United States Army during World War II.

Surviving are his daughter, Melinda (Tracy) Myers of Hartsville, SC; son, Gary (Carol) Lanier Byrd, Jr. of Hartsville, SC; sister, Jewel Sherron; grandchildren, Stephanie (Aaron) Smith, Melissa (Keith) Altman, Gary (Lauren) Byrd, III; great-grandchild, David Smith, Myers Altman, Mary Altman, Lucas Byrd, Ladson Byrd.
