Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, at St. Raphael Cathedral, where friends may greet the family from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Msgr. Thomas Toale will officiate. Military honors will be accorded. Private burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service is entrusted with arrangements.
Surviving Dick is his son, Christopher (Lois) Hebert and their son Richard, of Manteca, CA; his god-daughter Molly (Jim) Kolf of Dubuque; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Armand Hebert, his mother Laura Klein Hebert; brothers Phillip Hebert, Patrick Hebert, and Armand Lee Hebert; and his sister Rose Bebert Kane.
Dick served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II and also in Korea as a Medic. When he returned he went on to study and graduate from Loras, and then followed with a Master’s Degree.
He spent the rest of his life in education and when he retired he held the position of Dean of Students at Minneapolis Community College. He loved his life’s work and he kept in touch with a lot of his former students, and helped them in any way he could. He possessed a wonderful sense of humor, and if you spent time with him, you would always walk away from him with a smile on your face and some bit of new information.
The family would like to thank all his friends at Sunset Park, where he lived for the past 10 years, his friend Cindy Kohlman, the staff of Luther Manor and Hospice of Dubuque. The family requests no flowers. Donations will be distributed among Dick’s favorite charities.
