James William ‘Papa Squealer’ Sherrill age 88 of Sewanee passed away January 17, 2019 at his home in Sewanee.

Son of the late James Patty and Juan Bowers Sherrill, Papa was born in Sewanee in June of 1930. He worked as an assistant manager of the Sewanee Laundry, a Police Officer, and retired from the Sewanee Post Office. He was an avid gardener, coin and stamp collector, loved camping and The University of Tennessee Volunteers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Cleo Dotson Sherrill, daughter Darla Sherrill, and son Clea Allen Sherrill.

He is survived by son James Galon (Cindy) Sherrill of Alto, daughters Brenda (Doug) Woodard of Winchester, Janice Sherrill of Sewanee, Mary (Collis) Gipson of Winchester, Susie Henley, Cathy Sherrill, and Tracie Sherrill all of Sewanee; grandchildren Beth Burton, Allison (Jason) Fraker, Clay Sherrill, Amanda (Kevin) McClure, Jonathan Henley, Keith Henley, David and Kathryn Sherrill; great-grandchildren Christopher Harper, Faith Fraker, Aleigh and Reagan Sherrill, Alexis, Dylan, Harley and Jacob McClure, and Jesse Henley; and great-great-grandchild Zoey Moser.

Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Eastern Star Cemetery in Sewanee. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5-9 P.M. at the funeral home. On line condolences may be made at: www.cumberlandfuneralhome.net. A complete obituary will be updated on Friday.
