NED MOORE SLOCUM
(1897 - 1948)

Ned M. Slocum, 51 (photo), teacher of commercial courses in the high school at Two Rivers for 25 years and active in civic affairs there, died last night at the Two Rivers municipal hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Grace Congregational church, Two Rivers. There will be Masonic rites at the grave in Forest View cemetery.

Mr. Slocum was born in 1897 at Alcester, S.D., and served overseas in World War I with an infantry unit. He was graduated from Whitewater State Teachers college in 1923 and married Miss Marie Godfrey the same year. He took a teaching position in Two Rivers that year.

He taught all phases of commercial work in high school and also handled evening classes in the same subject in the vocational school. He was a past commander of the Burns post of the American Legion and a member of the Quarter Century club, made up of teachers who completed 25 years of teaching in Two Rivers. Mr. Slocum was church clerk of the Grace Congregational church and a member of the Masonic lodge there.

Surviving are his wife residing at 1706 29th street, Two Rivers, a son, Ned G., a senior at Ball State Teacher's college, Muncie, Ind., two daughters, Joan, nurse at Billings Memorial hospital in Chicago, and Sue at home; two sisters, Mrs. William Luck of Baraboo and Mrs. B. F. Querhammer of Cazenovia, Wis., and a grandson.
