Gloria M. (nee Klein) Montgomery
Chicago, IL - Gloria M. Klein Montgomery, 75, of Burr Ridge, IL, passed peacefully on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL.
She was born October 10, 1943 in Fond du Lac, WI, the daughter of Edgar L. and Elinor Wuest Klein. She was a 1961 graduate of Goodrich High School, Fond du Lac and attended UW-Oshkosh. On November 10, 1967, she married Harry A. Montgomery, who preceded her in death on January 20, 2018.
While in Fond du Lac, Gloria worked at Remington Drug Store, taught charm school at FDL Dry Goods, was a secretary at Giddings & Lewis, and while in college, a cocktail waitress at Hotel Retlaw where she met her husband, Harry. She sang throughout the area with the Cookie & Sully Smith Combo and is still remembered over 50 years later for the radio spot she sang for Rural Insurance. After moving to the Chicago area, she had various jobs including secretary for Indian Head Park, IL Police Dept.
She is survived by her children, Christopher L. (Amy Teri) Montgomery of Chicago, Melissa E. Montgomery-Rader of LaGrange, IL, and step-daughter Alison G. (Allen) Montgomery Crumbley of New Port, Richey, FL ; seven grandchildren: Eloise, Harper, Harrison, Donovan, Alana, Leigha, and Olivia; and a sister, Sharon (Mark) Steger, Fond du Lac, WI, as well as many cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, husband, step-daughter, aunts and uncles, and a step-nephew.
VISITATION: Conglianese Funeral Home, Burr Ridge, IL, Thursday, December 20 from 2:30 PM to time of service at 7:30 PM. Interment will be in Ledgeview Memorial Cemetery, Fond du Lac, WI at a later date.
