She is survived by her loving son Travis Bence (Sheila), her two grandchildren, Ava Linda Bence and Asa Leon Bence, all of Harlingen and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased in death by her beloved husband Leon Bence and cherished son, Leon Scott Bence, her parents, Alice & William Simpson and her twin brothers, Howard & Leonard Simpson.
Linda graduated from Harlingen High School in 1956 and was the Lead Baton Twirler. She earned her undergraduate degree in Education with double minors in French and Music. She obtained her first Masters in Education then a second Masters in Horticulture. She began her career as an elementary teacher in the Harlingen area. Later, she opened Bence Nursery Farms with her husband, Leon Bence. They operated the Nursery for over 40 years in the city of La Feria, Texas. Linda was also the first female member of the Cameron County Master Gardner Association. She was a long time member of the Harlingen Chamber of Commerce. Linda was fluent in English, Spanish and French. She was known for her wide brim hats that she would wear out on landscape jobs as she landscaped countless homes and commercial businesses throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
