She married Raymond "Ray" Bauer, Sr. on December 27, 1949 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Newaygo. She retired from teaching in 1950. A long-time member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, over the years she was a CCD teacher, parish council member, and member of the Ladies Guild and the Home and School Association. Her hobbies were gardening, working crossword puzzles and reading, mostly mysteries and historical novels. One of the things she enjoyed most were cookouts at the family farm in Newaygo where she could relax with her large family while watching all the curious grandchildren.
