Turner, Christine “Chris” Smith, of Richmond, Va., passed away January 14, 2019. She was born April 20, 1934, in Seven Springs, N.C. to the late Major Gordon and Louise Barwick Smith. Chris grew up a North Carolina farm girl, graduated from Seven Springs, N.C. High School and was married to Richard Maxton Ivey and subsequently set up homemaking in Goldsboro, N.C. having three children, Marcia Ivey Snead, Richard Max Ivey, Jr. and Robert Franklin Ivey. Following divorce....and after her children were grown, Chris married James Kellam Turner, Jr. of Richmond.
Chris was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Robert; her husband, Kellam; and her sister, Revaline Bartlett. Chris is survived by her sister, Carrie Joyner of Greenville, N.C.; her brother. Frank Smith of Gastonia, N.C.; her daughter, Marcia Ivey Snead of Hopewell, Va.; and son, Richard Max Ivey, Jr. and wife, Diane, of Parkton, Md.; five grandchildren, Stephen Wayne Ramsey, Jr., and Christopher Gordon Ramsey, of Hopewell, Va., Daniel Gordon Ivey of Tucson, Ariz. , Gabrielle Louise Ivey of Washington, D.C., Christina Marie Ivey of Parkton, Md.; and five great-grandchildren. Chris is also survived by Kellam’s children, Cathy Thomas of Durham, N.C., Nancy Inman of Nashville, Tenn., James Turner III, and Robert Turner, both of Richmond, Va.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bliley’s-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Road, where a funeral ceremony will be held 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment to follow in Dale Memorial Park.
