Ernest Winfred Newton Evans, 96, of Windsor, beloved husband of Lila Evans, departed peacefully on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital. Ernest was born November 19, 1922 in Hartford to the late George and Irene (Lane) Evans, the youngest of seven children.
Ernest attended and graduated from Hartford High School, class of 1941 and several years later, enlisted in the Army, serving in the Rhinelands and Southwest Pacific as a Water Supply Technician Staff Sergeant. Ernest worked for Aetna and Connecticut General Life Insurance Companies as an Elevator Operator and Messenger, before deciding on a self-employed career as an auto simonizer based out of Grody Chevrolet in West Hartford; he retired in the 1990s. Ernest married Lila Morgan, June 1948, moving to Bloomfield, Cottage Grove Rd. to a house he had built; then around 1990, moved to a new home in Windsor. Ernest enjoyed ice skating, speed skating, track and fishing and of course, watching football and basketball games. Most of all, he loved listening to jazz music.
Besides his loving wife Lila, Ernest leaves to cherish his memory, his four children, Elnora Evans-Gibson, Debra Campbell (Thedress), Marie Evans and Walter Evans; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Ernest N. Evans, Jr. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Kicky Kiser, devoted caregiver and St. Francis Hospital Hospice Unit.
