Emma, my mom, my best friend, was a tough woman. She was born the 4th of 13 children. She lived a hard and sad life as a child, growing up during the depression. Her parents were so poor that Emma and her siblings were sent to the County Childrens Home for several years before going back home to live with their parents.
Emma married 3 times, and after my father died in 1975 she devoted her life to her children, and her dogs, Sambo, Bimbo, Buffy, Smokey, and Mandy: her cats Tinker, Kitty and Rusty (not all at the same time)
She also cherished her granddaughter Stephanie more than life itself. She had 16 grandchildren and several g-grandchildren

Emma worked at the infamous Belisle's Restaurant (Corner of Harbor & Chapman) in Garden Grove for 22 years, and after a short break worked 17 years at Spires Restaurant before finally retiring in 1994 at the age of 70. She was the hardest working woman I knew and after becoming a waitress myself at Spires I had a whole new respect for my mother.

During WW2 Emma worked in Long Beach, California putting rivets on airplanes, and as a teenager in Washington Pennsylvania she worked in a glass factory
