Wallace "Wally" Cunningham, 89, of New Castle passed away the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.Born June 25, 1929, in New Castle, he was a son to the late John J. and Ivabell (Stickle) Cunningham.He married Mildred "Millie" Crane on April 12, 1955. She has preceded him in death.Mr. Cunningham was a graduate of New Castle High School.After graduation, Wally enlisted in the Marine Corp, where he served as a proud Marine sergeant.Upon his return from serving his country, Wally went onto further his education at Youngstown State University, graduating with an accounting degree.He was a retired managing partner at Carbis Walker and Associates.He loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at their hunting camp.Wally had a passion for business and not only was involved in many of his own, he also enjoyed helping others establish and manage their own businesses.He was very active in the community and belonged to many organizations.He was a member at Third United Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher. Later on in life, he became a member of United Brethren Church.Wally is survived by daughter, Pauline S. Cunningham of New Castle; three sons, David W. (Donna) Cunningham of Bluffton, South Carolina, Philip K. (Sheree) Cunningham of New Wilmington and John J.(Robin) Cunningham of Toms River, New Jersey; a sister, Pauline Reid of Chicago, Illinois, seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents and beloved wife "Millie", In addition to his parents and wife, Wally was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Joseph Cunningham.Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A service will immediately follow visitation at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Rich Kinney of Highland United Presbyterian Church officiating. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform full military rites at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made in Wally's honor to the donor's favorite charity.Online condolences may be offered to the family by visiting www.cunninghamfh.com.Wally will always be remembered for having lived by the Marine Corps Motto: "Semper Fidelis" Always Faithful Once a Marine always a Marine.
