Waynesville, Jane Messer Curtis, 85, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Mission Hospital.

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Printha Johnson Messer. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Messer and Bonnie Woods; six brothers, Oscar, Ernest, John, Tom, David Messer and James H Messer, Jr. Jane met the love of her life, Joe, 64 years ago. Ever since that fateful day in Hazelwood, the two have never been apart. Jane learned to quilt and crochet as a child by her mother. It was a wonderful way to pass the time and she loved it. She also enjoyed quiet walks with Joe around the neighborhood and trips they made to Tennessee visiting family. She was a member of Jonathan Valley Baptist Church.

Jane is survived by her husband, Joe Curtis; two sisters, Hattie Garland and her husband, Jim, of Candler and Bobbie Parker and her husband, Boyd, of Waynesville; a brother, Verlin Messer and his wife, Patsy, of Waynesville; as well as by several beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2018 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Billy Ferguson and Reverend Bobby Downs officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
