CORNELIUS, James R. 87, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. He was born on March 6, 1931, in Osborne, Ohio, the son of the late Loyd W. and Blanche M. (Stewart) Cornelius. Jim served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Merrimac. He was sales manager for Moraine Material for many years and owned and operated Magique Midwest Golf for ten years. He absolutely loved to play golf and was lifelong UD Basketball fan. Jim is survived by his son, Sidney Cornelius, daughter, Stephanie (David) Husted, two grandchildren: Ben (Melissa) Husted, and Amanda Husted (Bryan Boender), two great grandchildren, Zander and Lydia; brother, Bill (Kathy) Cornelius of Arizona, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his wife Barbara E. Cornelius. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Newcomers Cemetery with Reverend Vicki Downing officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace UMC Building Fund. The family would like to express their appreciation to Springfield Assisted Living.
