Married late in life, she had no issue. She and her brother, Herbert, were prolific writers whose works may be found in the Repository, University of Oregon Libraries - Special Collections and University Archives

A second group of papers relates to Lillian Howe, sister of Herbert C. Howe. It includes her diaries for 1874, 1879-1882, 1885, 1889, and her letters to Herbert C. Howe from 1874 to 1916. From 1879 to 1881 Miss Howe was a student at the Academy of Mount St. Vincent, West Albany, N.Y., and from 1882 to 1884 a student at Houghton Academy, Clinton, N.Y. She later worked in the Boston Public Library, was on the editorial staff of Mentor, and was a secretary for the National Association of Woolen Manufacturers, Boston.
