James Joseph (Jim) Fielding, Jr. died peacefully under hospice care on April 1, 2014 near his home in Bedminster, New Jersey. He lived a full life of 92 years, and is survived by his loving wife Nancy; their nine children; his brother.
The most important event for Jim was his marriage to the light of his life, Nancy Moss Fray. They married at the Church of the Assumption in Fairfield, CT on January 14, 1950. The life journey they shared was rich in love, deep in friendship, and strong in commitment.
The substance of Jim's life centered on family. Raising seven sons and two daughters with Nancy brought him happiness for their successes, heartache for their set backs, pride for their contributions, and, above all, joy for the true and deep love that they share as family.
Jim was born and raised in Bridgeport, CT the second son of Irish immigrants James Joseph and Mary Shannon Fielding, and attended Bassick High School, graduating in 1938. Upon graduation he began what was to become a long and distinguished career in the pharmaceutical industry, first as a stock boy for McKesson & Robbins and rising to become a VP of Marketing, before moving on to VP Marketing for Cunningham Drug in Detroit MI, marketing director at Parke-Davis and concluding as a marketing director for Warner-Lambert in Morris Plains NJ.
Jim enlisted in the Army in 1942, serving in the 13th Air Force's 424th Bomb Squadron, where First Lieutenant Fielding became a decorated B-24 pilot, flying 51 combat missions in the South Pacific and being awarded the Silver Star. Upon returning from military service in 1945, he went back to work at McKesson's and earned a business degree with honors from Fordham University.
Jim's interests were many and varied, but none surpassed his competitive delight in playing tennis and his devotion to the Fightin' Irish of Notre Dame. During his time in Detroit with Cunningham Drug and later with Parke-Davis, he moonlighted as a beloved member of the prestigious Grosse Pointe Community Theater, earning coveted "Clarence" awards for acting, directing, and stage-managing a variety of productions, as well as serving a term as it's President. He and Nancy were also honored for their many years' of volunteer work for the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology.
Jim will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved this special man.
