Bobbie Dee Loftin was born May 23, 1927 and died January 12, 2019 at the age of 91. He died suddenly outside the library under the maple trees at St. Francis of the Woods near Coyle after returning a book. A memorial service to help celebrate his long life will be held at 1:00pm on January 26, 2019 at the St. Francis of the Woods Chapel, 11414 W. Highway 33, near Coyle. Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life. Bob chose to be cremated and buried next to Ruth’s ashes in the Hulbert Cemetery near where he was born. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
Bobbie was born to Charles and Virginia Loftin in Cherokee County, Oklahoma. He spent his youth along the creeks and dirt roads of southeastern Oklahoma before he joined the Navy at the age of 16 to serve with pride in World War II. After returning home from service he graduated from Northeastern University in Tahlequah with a Bachelor’s degree and began work with the oil company DX in Pawhuska as a chemist. While living in Pawhuska he met a beautiful red-head named Ruth and they were married in Stigler, Oklahoma in September of 1953. Together they had four children. They also lived in Duncan and Wynnewood before retiring to an acreage outside Coyle.
Bob spent his life as a 32nd degree Mason, a gardener, an ornithologist and a voracious reader. After retirement he was active in Guthrie Senior Citizens, the Guthrie YMCA and was a longtime participant in the Saturday evening talk group at the St. Francis of the Woods, where he developed deep friendships.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Tom and Pete; two sisters, Betty and Sue; grandsons, Josh Baker and Brian Loftin. Joining him the day after his death was grandson, Ty O’Donnell.
He is survived by one brother Jim; one son, Charles and his wife Gloria; three daughters, Robin and husband Ken Baker; Susan Loftin and Beth Loftin, along with nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
