Dwight Allen Newton age 64, of Dover, passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 14, 2019, in his home. Born January 28, 1954 in Dover, he was a son of the late Tracy H. and Guyda Smith Newton.

Dwight graduated from Dover High School in 1972, and went on to serve honorably with the United States Navy in Norfolk, Virginia, Charleston, South Carolina, as well as Rota, Spain. Following his service time, Dwight attended classes at Kent State Tuscarawas, and was employed by Charles Rewinding and Progress Motor & Control, both of Dover. He later retired from Magnetech in Massillon as an electrician and electric motor rewinder.

Dwight had a lifelong love of music and was a talented musician. While in high school, he was a member of the Marching Tornadoes playing the tuba. Later, he played bass guitar with a number of area musicians. Dwight played and recorded with the band Todd Alan and the Quest, and was a member of the classic rock band XL. Additionally, he was in an Irish trio, Full Gael, along with his wife Christine and friend Chris Arthurs.

Dwight is survived by his loving wife Christine Walsh-Newton, whom he married on May 17, 1997; his children, Seth (Taylor) Newton, Erin (Derek) Patterson, Jonathan Walsh and David (Kasey) Warrick; his seven grandchildren; his sister, Mary Cooper; his brother, Kevin (Mary Ellen Lawless) Newton; and his nieces and nephews; his three cats and "wee black dog."

A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 17, at 10:30 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover; Pastor Brian Flood will officiate. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday (today), 5 - 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
