David Lamar Shepherd, age 52, from Gatesville Texas, died on January 13, 2019 in Flower Mound Texas. David had been battling relapsed lymphoma but his death was sudden and not a progression of the disease.

David was born on March 21, 1966 at Hendricks Memorial Hospital in Abilene Texas. He was born to Buster Lamar Shepherd, originally from Keota, Oklahoma and Jesse Aline Shepherd Fincannon from Coleman, Texas.

David has a sister Melissa Hunter, brother, Larry Shepherd and brother, Mickey Fincannon. He also has special adopted siblings Stacie Ansell, Anita Owings, and Leroy "Butch" Hardy.

David attended Fannin Elementary, Franklin Junior High and Abilene High School, where he graduatued in 1984. He was forever an 80's kid and loved classic Rock and especially Pink Floyd.

David was a long time state employee having worked at San Angelo State School, the Wichita Falls State School and the Denton State School. He also worked at the Waco Center for the Youth and his last position was working for TDCJ at the Hughes unit in Gatesville.

David was a friend to everyone. He was funny, kind, compassionate and loyal. He loved to cook and was famous for his cookies, red velvet cake and sopapilla cheesecake.

David became a Christian in high school and attended Elmcrest Baptist Church. He was active in the youth group and sang in the choir. He loved God and was humbled by his relationship with the Lord.

David is survived by his step-father Bill Fincannon, brother, Larry Shepherd and wife Pennie, sister Melissa Hunter and husband Jesse, brother Mickey Fincannon and wife Robin, adopted siblings Anita Owings, Stacie Ansell and Butch Hardy. Nieces and nephews include Randy Shepherd, David Shepherd, Justin Anderson, Kristen O'Neil, Cheyenne Vazquez, Kayla Fincannon, Kortney Fincannon and Kaydee Fincannon. He has 7 great nieces and nephews and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins who all loved him dearly.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Buster Lamar Shepherd, originally from Keota, Oklahoma and Jessie Aline Shepherd Fincannon originally from Coleman, Texas. His grandparents James and Lillie Green, and Cleburn and Ivory Shepherd also preceded him home.

Pallbearers will be: Jesse Hunter, Justin Anderson, Mickey Fincannon, Butch Hardy and Kevin Freedy

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 11 AM in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel.
