James T. “Jim” AKERS, 90, passed away Saturday January 12, 2019 at the Baptist Health Floyd Hospital. He was born on September 18, 1928 in New Albany and was an Army Sergeant: First Class: in the Korean War. He was a retired Truck Driver for John Martin Distributors and Harshfield Produce and he loved to fish. Jim was a member of Mt. Tabor United Presbyterian Church where he was very active as the Record Keeper for Mt. Tabor Cemetery for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents: Elsie and Edward L. Akers Sr. a brother: Edward L. Akers Jr. and his sister: Aliene Spalding.
Survivors include: his wife of 68 years: Gayla Austin Akers, son: Jim L. Akers and his wife Carmel, daughter: Karen Boyd(Akers), 3 Grandchildren: Niki Akers and his wife Diana, Alexandria and Demi McKinley, and 3 Great Grandchildren: Ayrton, Sabrina and Waylon.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 12 Noon Thursday January 17, 2019 at Mt. Tabor United Presbyterian Church((918 Mt. Tabor Rd) with burial at Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Church from 10 AM – 12 Noon Thursday before the service.
