Long time Cookeville attorney, L. Dean Moore, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday afternoon January 13, 2019 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

He was born on Saturday December 20, 1941 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Leroy Bush Moore and the late Anne Dean Moore.

Dean graduated from Hillsboro High School in Nashville and obtained both his undergraduate degree and law degree at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. After law school, he served as a Captain in the United States Army JAG Corps. where he practiced law in the appellate division before the United States Court of Military Appeals. Dean was stationed in Washington, DC for three years and frequently entertained family and friends with stories from his time in Washington, DC.

Dean moved back to Cookeville, Tennessee where he was the senior partner at Moore, Rader, Fitzpatrick and York law firm from 1968 until the time of his death. He was a tenacious advocate who enjoyed representing his clients and being a mentor to the other partners in the law firm, growing his law firm to be the largest in the Upper Cumberland.

After moving to Cookeville, Dean joined the Jaycees and Rotary where he was a member for several years. He also served on the Symphony Board for the Bryan Symphony Orchestra. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and loved attending the Disciple classes on Wednesday nights.

As an avid fan of the University of Tennessee football program, he held season tickets for over 50 years and traveled throughout the southeast to attend games.

In 1993, Dean met the love of his life, Lavonda Rhoton Britton, whom he married four years later on July 25, 1997 in Cookeville. Their lives together were filled with laughter and joy and the unconditional love of family.

Dean's proudest accomplishment was raising his two children, Lane Moore and Lara Moore Mowery, and helping raise his five grandchildren Aidan and Adeleine Moore, and Andrew, Benjamin, and Jacob Mowery.

Gardening and traveling the world were his life long passions. He planted acres of daffodils, tulips, iris, lilies and wildflowers that were the backdrop for photography sessions for his friends and neighbors throughout Middle Tennessee. He traveled throughout the world with his wife, children, grandchildren, brother, nephew and friends.
