He was the son of Jacob and Mettha (Quast) Diercks. He immigrated to America in 1868. He immigrated to Canada with his brother Herman in 1901 and homesteaded there. He was married to Martha. In 1903 he died in his smokehouse of asphyxiation. His wife abandoned the homestead in August of 1903 and returned to her family.
