She graduated from Winecoff High School in 1945 where she played basketball. Bette later graduated from Southeastern Beauty College and was a hair dresser for many years.
She married A.E. "Sonny" Baker in October of 1952, who also preceded her in death.
Bette is survived by daughters, Debbie Smith Baker, and Jeannie Baker Sidi and her husband Bob; sons, A.E. "Fred" Baker and wife Cathy, and Joseph "Joey" C. Baker and wife Kim; grandchildren, Brandon Smith, Taylor Smith, Erin M. James, Ashlyn M. Malec, and Carson Baker; great grandchildren, Emma and Brady James, Channing Smith, and Halle Grace Smith.
