Nola Hampson

Nola E. Hampson, 95, Pleasantville, passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 1996, at McCafferty's Boarding House.

She received her education from Ohio Northern University, 1917 to 1919; Wittenberg University, 1922 to 1923; Eastern Kentucky State Teacher's College, 1924; Columbia University, 1925; and Capital University, 1929 to 1941. She taught school for 41 years, having taught in the Troy and Upper Arlington school systems and retiring from the Pleasantville school system. She was recognized by the Ohio House of Representatives in 1970 as an outstanding educator and was selected as a Jennings Scholar.

She was a member of the National Education Association, Central Ohio Teachers Association, Fairfield County Education Association and Ohio Education Association. She was a 75-year member of Order of Eastern Star and a member of Parthenia Chapter No. 124 Order of Eastern Star, Baltimore; American Legion Auxiliary, Pleasantville; Pleasantville Garden Club; Pleasantville United Methodist Church; and Pleasantville United Methodist Church WSCS.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry R. and Nadine Hampson and James H. and Helen Hampson, all of Lancaster; eight grandchildren, Jay, Michael, Patrick, Timothy, Tom and John Hampson, Denise Shannon and DeeDee Thiesenvitz; 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ruth Whitmer of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; and nieces and nephews, Susan (James) Derr of East Brunswick, N.J, Betsy (Mitchell) Russ of Indianapolis, William Dawson of Columbus, Merrill Dawson of Las Vegas and Richard Whitmer of Green Cove Springs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Verne Hampson, in 1981; parents, the Rev. William and Adda Whitmer; brother, Merrill Whitmer; and sisters, Waveline Dawson and her twin, Lola Whitmer.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Pleasantville United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Jeffrey D. Jewell and Bryan Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Hampson Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home and one hour prior to service Thursday at the church. Parthenia Chapter No. 124 Order of Eastern Star, Baltimore, will conduct service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests contributions be made in her memory to Pleasantville United Methodist Church.
