"Claude Mason, 81, Dies;
Retired Baptist Pastor
The Rev. Claude Mason, pastor emeritus at First Baptist Church of Rossville and
for the past 25 years the chaplain of Lane Funeral Home, died Saturday in a
local hospital. He was 81.
The son of the late Samuel K. and France(s) Cochran Mason, he had pastured churches in Georgia and Kentucky for more than 50 years, retiring in 1979.
His last fulltime pastorate was First Baptist Church of Rossville, where he
served for 18 years.
At his retirement, the church bestowed upon him the title of pastor emeritus. Since that time, he had served as interim pastor to many congregations in Walker, Catoosa and Whitfield counties.
An active member of the Exchange Club of Rossville for more than 30 years, Mr. Mason served as president on two occasions, and worked on numerous committees. The club
honored him with many awards, including the Book of Golden Deeds.
...The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Rossville with
Dr. David Tullock and the Rev. Ken Mavity officiating.
Burial will be in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 6 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of
Lane Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Fund of First Baptist Church
of Rossville."
