Sarah Jane Alexander, 72, of West Frankfort, Illinois, passed away Thursday January 10, 2019 in St. Louis University Hospital – St. Louis, MO at 4:08p.m.
Sarah Jane was born June 18, 1946 in Herrin, Illinois to Lawrence and Thelma (Lawrence) Finazzo. She married William Alexander on June 29, 1968 and he survives. Sarah Jane was known for her infectious smile and loving heart. She loved her family especially her grandchildren. Sarah Jane was the church organist, pianist, and was in charge of the music for the Children’s Program at Trinity United Methodist Church – West Frankfort where she a lifelong member. She loved art and music. Sarah Jane was able to stay home to raise her children until Jon was in junior high. She worked for the Southern Illinoisan for a short time and then became the librarian for the City of West Frankfort. She served in that capacity until she retired in 2006 to take care of her grandchildren. Her great love in that position was in helping children. Sarah Jane graduated from the University of Illinois in 1968.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Sarah Jane is survived by her husband, William Alexander; sons: Scott Alexander and Jon (Amy) Alexander; grandchildren: Kaili and Kamdyn; many cousins, close friends, and her church family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday January 15, 2019 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Joey Dunning officiating. Burial will be in Tower Heights Cemetery – West Frankfort, Illinois. Visitation will be held at the church Monday January 14, 2019 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and Tuesday January 15, 2019 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
