Gary Victory Dean was born Feb. 7, 1942, in Norfolk to Victory and Caroline (Matteo) Dean. He attended grade school in Norfolk, graduating from Norfolk Catholic High School.
He married Patricia Horn on May 17, 1969, at the Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Norfolk.
Gary lived in Norfolk his entire life. After high school, Gary served in the United States Army serving in Vietnam from Feb. 24, 1964, to Feb. 19, 1966. He then returned to Norfolk after the service.
Gary then worked various jobs until he worked at Dale Electronics where in 1967 he met his future wife Pat. Gary later worked for Gillette Dairy and then the City of Norfolk water department for 33 years. Gary retired from the City of Norfolk on Jan. 31, 2007.
Gary loved sports, especially watching his children and grandchildren's activities. He enjoyed watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers, win or lose. Gary also enjoyed meeting and talking with everyone.
He was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Norfolk and Norfolk VFW Post 1644.
Survivors include his spouse, Patricia; daughters, Jennifer and Amy; four grandchildren; brother Mike; sister Stephanie; and brother-in-law Don.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
