Amy White Burns, 89, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2019. She was born on May 28, 1929, in Weeksville, NC, to Sarah and George White. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 53 years, James Patrick Burns, Jr. and eight of her nine siblings.

She is survived by her children Danette McClelland Blevins, Larry McClelland, James Patrick Burns, (Kimberly Dough Burns) and Linda Jeane Burns (Tom Applegate), as well as her granddaughters Ashley Blevins, Zsa Zsa Douglas, and Mina Douglas, her sister, Annie Meryl (White) Jennings, brother-in-law, Clarence “Hickory” Jennings, and her niece Elaine Tiedemann, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and many cousins.

Amy was known for her sweet disposition, her dedication to her family and her beautiful bright blue eyes. She was an active member of Lynnhaven United Methodist Church, participating in education programs, various women’s groups, and charitable organizations. Amy loved gardening flowers and vegetables, which she preserved and shared with family and friends. She was an avid sewer, sewing clothes for herself, family members, and even her granddaughters’ Barbies. Her specialties were her beautiful handsewn quilts. Amy loved animals, especially her pet Brittany spaniels, poodles, and cockatiels. She is survived by her beloved Brittany, Goldie.

She also loved the “thrill of the hunt” finding hidden treasures at yard sales. Some of her greatest joys were family vacations on the Outer Banks where she spent time with her family beachcombing, working jigsaw puzzles, and word puzzles. Amy will be missed dearly by family members and all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. F. Joe Griffith officiating.
